Antalya Archaeology Museum

Antalya Archaeology Museum

Antalya Archaeology Museum, which exhibits important works from the Paleolithic to the Roman period, was built in 1922 by teacher Suleyman Fikri Erten and was founded after World War I to prevent the occupation forces from looting our various archaeological treasures. It consists of 13 exhibition halls, a children's section and open-air galleries. In the museum, where all regional works are exhibited, you can see coins, mosaics, icons, emperor statues and ethnographic works. The most notable works of the museum are the sarcophagus of Aurelia Botiana Demetria, the sarcophagus of Hercules, the statues of Hercules, Zeus, Aphrodite and Athena, the mosaic of the Philosophers and the treasure of Corydalla (Sion) dating back to the 3rd century BC. In 1988, Antalya Museum was awarded the "Special Prize of the European Council".
